New decorative design options for the paws-and-claws household
As we previously posted, integrating pets into your household requires a bit of practical planning. While that’s still true, pet décor tastes have since shifted to the more decorative and interesting, incorporating innovative new materials that provide the same hardy qualities of traditional fallbacks, such as:
- Flooring. Pet owners are moving away from the usual linoleum and going for more stylish options that also withstand the daily rigors of paws and claws. As we posted, bamboo flooring offers many options in environmentally friendly versions. Decorative, waterproof floor tile is both beautiful and durable; some furry pets actually prefer to relax on the coolness of tile, especially after a summer walk. Our Trade Partner Wayfair offers many creative options such as Hawaiian mosaic stone, classic Octagonal designs, foam tile in wood, and more.
- Fabrics for windows and sofas. New durable “performance fabrics” in chenille, cotton, and even velvet now come in a variety of colors and patterns. Choose stripes, solids or even cute animal motifs from our Trade Partner Decorator’s Best.
- Custom features bring practical charm. A large recessed cupboard becomes a kennel that doesn’t take up additional floorspace. (Remember there should be enough room for your pet to stand up, turn around and lie down) Dog-wash stations installed in mudrooms are “pawpular” for post-muddy-walk hose-offs, and can double as a plant watering station. Many interior and exterior possibilities!
