Northern California second guest bedroom, virtual consulting: Goodbye grey storage closet, hello beautiful space!

This room is a mirror image of the first guest bedroom we re-designed. First, we updated the wall paint from a grey-blue to a cream neutral, and then introduced a new color palette of complementary green/red. The previously dark shelved desk unit is now a beautiful serene green, featuring accessory arrangements with both new and re-purposed items, and plenty of plants.  The refreshed bed features a cherry-themed cover, shams and various throw pillows. Rounding out the organic look is an indoor palm with accompanying green pouf for casual window seating. We switched out the 1980s adobe wall art for vibrant bird portraits and Kihei, Maui landscapes by jmorrisart.com (affordable prints available). Per our client’s request, plants and nature are the theme, reflected by the lush outdoor garden and enhanced with an abundance of natural light.

Northern California guest bedroom virtual consulting:

Our client lives in a leafy area by the American River, with beautiful views of a lush garden. She wanted to update her guest bedroom to reflect the nature and greenery visible from the large windows and refresh the décor so that the room looks inviting to guests. It was formerly a child’s room and was being used more as a storage space than a guest room. We updated the paint from a grey-blue to a cream neutral, and replaced the map of the world wallpaper with a green floral pattern. The refreshed bed features a new cover, shams and throw pillows of various colors and textures to complement the neutral décor and add style. A new dresser and complementary beside tables with matching neutral lamps, and a house plant, gives the space an organic and cohesive look. We integrated a bird motif to meet the clients’ request to integrate nature, with a bird mirror, bird nightlight and three custom painted bird portraits by jmorrisart.com

Bathroom: Our goal was to make this tiny bathroom look bigger and more appealing. We updated the color palette from neutral to monochromatic blue, which opens up the space and compliments the existing original artwork. We replaced the aging vanity with a blue glass basin, which is both beautiful and functional, as it controls water splashes. It also reflects light, which makes the space looks bigger. Updated décor completes the  refreshed look.

Art studio: The resident artist paints in this outbuilding located in his backyard and wanted the building to look more like a studio and less like a storage unit. He also wanted to blend in and avoid looking conspicuous, His first idea was blue/brown, but after a test, we recommended a neutral palette that provides a crisp, couture look suitable for an inconspicuous  working art studio.

Bedroom: Adjoining bedroom to bathroom. The client wanted to update the décor so that the room feels like a cozy yet minimalist sanctuary. We kept the neutral on the ceilings but repainted the walls with a cool blue that, with the Southern natural light, includes the slightest hint of green, giving the room a Coastal feel. We replaced the bedspread with a crisp white comforter that provides a pleasant contrast to the blue walls, and added shams, a bedskirt, and a neutral light gray headboard for a more cohesive and complete look. We replaced faded blue bedside tables with a neutral gray featuring a coastal driftwood texture, updated the rug with a pretty leaf motif, and added four throw pillows in various colors and texture for interest.

Small Kitchen: This is a small U-shaped kitchen in a 1957 house. Please note the before pictures do show the new gray tile floor and dishwasher. There was only a partial floor originally and no dishwasher. This kitchen had structural damage and had to be gutted.

The goal was to recreate the look to maximize the natural light and bring in a modern aesthetic. The color palette is green monochrome with gray and beige neutrals. We replaced dark pockmarked cabinets with gray IKEA cabinets and installed an onyx beige flecked countertop. The reflective glass backsplash features green and gray, creating a cohesive color design and tying together the main features of backsplash, cabinetry, and countertop.
