The small things: how handles and knobs finish your kitchen

Similar to faucets in bathrooms, handles on kitchen cabinets add personality as well as functionality.

Choosing handles and knobs can be a little overwhelming because there are so many different styles and sheens available. But with a few basic guidelines, the decision can be a pleasure, delivering a satisfying final touch with lasting oomph.

A few design tips:

  1. Chrome handles – these are versatile and can work with light, dark and wooden cabinetry. Ideal for contemporary spaces, including the related transitional style. I personally love the cozy contrast of chrome on wood cabinetry,
  • Retro design with matte finish – If you are looking for an easy way to create a rustic, casual feel, choose matte bronze handles, open a bottle of Chianti, and imagine you are in the Tuscan countryside.
  • Copper or black handles on white cabinetry creates instant texture and variety. Aligning the color of the handles with the countertop brings even more cohesion to the color palette of the room.
