Design tips to keep you cool

Savvy solutions for heat relief

Hot? Cranky? You’re not alone! Aside from the obvious solutions of a/c, fans, and cold drinks, here are a few other useful tips to help you and your house stay cool:

  1. Real plants give back. Did you know plants cool off a room?  If you’re scared of being a plant-killer, please ditch those awful fake plants for a low maintenance, high water content choice, like a snake plant (Sanseviera Trifasciata) that will naturally release cooling moisture into the air. An Aloe plant is another good high water content option.
  2. Traditional light bulbs are hot. Switch your incandescent bulbs for LED bulbs, even if just for the season. For a look similar to the “warm” traditional bulbs, go for LED bulbs in the 2700K to 3000K temperature range.
  3. Choose lighter wall colors that don’t attract sun and heat. This goes for interior and exterior paint (and roofs). Work with me to find your ideal paint color and receive my Sherwin-Williams PRO+ trade partner discount price on paint and primer, at no mark-up to you. The savings will cover your consulting fee and more!
