Help! What’s wrong with my living room?

Do you ever feel like something in your living room isn’t quite right, but you can’t figure out what it is?

The answer may be simple. Besides creating a cohesive color palette, and selecting functional furniture, there is a very important third piece of the puzzle: how to arrange everything.

Here are a few tips to help transform your living room into a relaxed, balanced space, as seen above:

  1. How to arrange furniture evenly: don’t cram pieces together in one space while leaving other corners empty. Imagine your room is divided into four quadrants. Is one overloaded? Also, be aware of sightlines, ensuring that nothing is in front of a door, such as the back of a sofa, which is uninviting.
  • Avoid placing your sofa or loveseat right up against a wall. This actually makes the room look smaller. Pull it out a few inches and you’ll notice the difference.
  • It’s easy to fall into the convention of lining up standalone chairs and placing a side table next to them. This only makes your space look like a waiting room. Instead, follow a U shape pattern to create an easy conversation area.

Besides living rooms, there are other useful design guidelines for arranging and decorating kitchens, bedrooms, dining rooms, nurseries and more. It can get overwhelming fast, so better to hire a professional! We’re here to help.
